FIJI SECONDARY SCHOOLS ESSAY COMPETITION
Title
March - May 2010

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Fiji’s Independence, the Fiji Association in Auckland Inc, with support from the New Zealand High Commission in Suva, is proud to again sponsor in 2010 a National Essay Competition in Fiji Secondary Schools. This year the Essay Competition is designed to allow students opportunities to research Fiji’s Contribution to the International Community since Independence in 1970.

It is hoped students will draw on resources to develop some of the achievements by Fiji in environment, social, and gender issues at Regional or International levels.

Adjudicator Dr Satendra Singh says, “There are many outstanding aspects of Fiji’s Post Independence Foreign Policies and its special role in both Regional and International organizations. The 40th anniversary is also a celebration of the founding of Fiji’s Foreign Office.”

The Association is thankful that Lady June Hillary QSM and Dr Satendra Singh ONZM QSM will be adjudicating the essays once again.

Prizes of $1000 will be awarded to the Two Top Entries, with a total Prize Pool of $6000.

Prizes:

Two Top Winners: $1000 each, Trophy each, Certificates

Three Winners: $500 each and Certificates

Five Winners: $300 each and Certificates

Five Winners: $200 each and Certificates

Other Prizes may be awarded by the Judges at their discretion

Due to the disruption caused by Cyclone Tomas, the closing date for entries has been extended to 31 May, 2010.
